Introduction
Welcome to the world of PSYCH SCREEN, the only computerized psychological test Interpretation System that integrates a battery of standardized psychological test findings into a comprehensive and accurate interpretative report with one touch of the button.
To get started, please carefully read through the manual. We have created hyperlinks for each item in the Table of Contents. This can allow you to easily jump to the section of material you wish to review. We have also built in hyperlinks for video presentations, illustrating visually and audibly how to use Psych Screen.
In-depth video demonstrations for various aspects of Psych Screen can be found in the various sections of this manual.
The PSYCH SCREEN family of interpretive software includes:

While we have tried to make PSYCH SCREEN highly user friendly, as with anything good, a learning curve exists. Be patient, after running several reports the process will become automatic.
Because of copyright laws, PSYCH SCREEN cannot administer or score tests for you. PSYCH SCREEN is an interpretive program that uses scale scores that you have obtained either through hand scoring or from scoring software licensed by the test publisher.
Once you enter the correct scale scores into PSYCH SCREEN, our software will generate a report at a cost far less than that charged by test publishers.
PSYCH SCREEN software is the only software that integrates findings from different tests into one comprehensive report at the touch of a button.
TEST SELECTION AND ADMINISTRATION
TEST SELECTION
When using Psych Suite, you may interpret any selection of included tests that are clinically relevant to the client whom you are assessing. We have selected what we believe to be the best tests, regardless of publisher, that evaluate different areas of psychological functioning. Many Forensically oriented tests are also included. PLEASE SEE APPENDIX A to see available tests for each version
For mental health screening, we suggest use of the Shipley, Millon and SASSI for a quick initial screening. Other tests may be added latter if they are indicated.
TEST ADMINISTRATION
PSYCH SUITE 4 will interpret any combination of the tests included in each battery, see Appendix A for specific variable names and what type of scores to enter. You can select which specific tests to administer given your unique clinical and program needs. The more tests given, the more comprehensive and accurate PSYCH SUITE report is.
Tests should be given in a quiet room where test-taking behavior can be monitored. Clients should not be allowed to talk to each other during testing. Staff should be available to help with vocabulary questions.
If used, start by administering the Shipley Institute of Living Scale, which is the only timed test. Clients have a maximum of 10 minutes per side to complete the Shipley, though people usually take less than 5 minutes per side to finish. Have the client begin with the vocabulary test. Read the instructions to them, and then have him/her underline the choice that they think has the same meanings as the target word. After completing the vocabulary section, clients may immediately turn the page over and begin answering the abstract reasoning section for which they have up to ten minutes to complete.
If you wish to evaluate visual abstract reasoning, the Matrix Reasoning subtest of the WAIS-III can be administered. This is particularly helpful if the subject is illiterate or if English is a second language.
The client should then be administered the remaining tests that you wish to give: MCMI-III/MACI, MMPI-2/MMPI-A, PAI, SASSI-3/SASSI–A, STAXI-2, POSIT, DAP/TSCC Jesness, Derogatis, and/or Multiphasic Sex inventory.
The LSI-R is filled out by a professional based on a semi structured clinical interview and review of records.
In each case, read the client the test instructions and then have the client answer test questions on the appropriate answer sheet. Make sure that the client puts his name, age, and date on each answer sheet.
After test completion, make check that every question has been answered and that there are no double answers. Darken in (or have the client darken in) all light responses to aid scoring. Check for invalid response patterns such as the client answering all items true or all items false.

You do not have to use up all uses before adding further uses as the unlock code given you will add a set number of uses to your existing use count.
The USE button also allows you to select the default word processor of your choice.
ENTERING CLIENT INFORMATION
The left-hand field is for entering patient demographic Information.

ADDING NEW CLIENT DATA AND REPORTS
FOR VIRTUAL TOUR, CLICK HERE (self-extracting exe or scm format)
Below the case movement buttons you will find 4 keys: Edit, Add, Delete, and Save.
To add a new patient press the "ADD" key and type in the last name of the patient. Please do not use commas in this field. You may then move to the first name entry box by either pressing the TAB button or by moving the mouse cursor to the next field and single clicking your mouse. After entering the client's first name again press TAB or use the mouse to enter a middle initial (optional). Again hit the TAB key or use your mouse to enter the client's name, and similarly, sex, entering either M or F. The default values of 0 for age and M for sex should be changed to those of the specific client. A referral source (optional) can also be entered. When all demographic data is entered, press the "SAVE" key which will be the only key that is darkened.
The "EDIT" key is used to make changes in the Demographic information of the displayed case once it has already been saved. For example, if you mistyped a name and have already saved the information, you can press and "EDIT" key, make any necessary changes and then press the "SAVE" key to permanently correct your entry. When initially entering data, prior to first saving the entry, changes can be made without use of the "EDIT" button.
In a similar manner you may Delete the specific case shown in the Client Information Management field by pressing the "DELETE" key. This will delete testing information from all testing sessions for the individual whose name is shown in the Demographic field. Please note this permanently deletes all of the person's records including all prior test sessions.
AFTER ENTERING A CLIENT, YOU NEXT GO TO THE MIDDLE DATA ENTRY FIELD TO ENTER TEST SCORES, SEE SELECTING TESTS TO ENTER.
ACCESSING EXISTING CLIENT DATA AND REPORTS
FOR VIRTUAL TOUR, CLICK HERE (self-extracting exe or scm format)
The lower box is used to move between existing cases. Cases are automatically saved in alphabetical order. Information for existing clients can be retrieved either through use of a scroll bar that drops when the arrow at the left hand corner of the Last Name field is clicked, or by the use of four arrows at the bottom of the field. The single arrows will move through cases alphabetically one person at a time in the direction of the arrow, while the double arrows will move either to the start or to the end of the alphabet.
You can then add new test data or can reopen or edit existing data or reports. Use the sequence selection buttons (SEE BELOW) to go to the testing session that you want and either press the VIEW TEST SCORES key to display the test scores for that individual for the selected test date (which then can be edited), or press the RESULTS button to call up an existing test report without using additional test uses.
SELECTING TESTS TO ENTER
FOR VIRTUAL TOUR, CLICK HERE (self-extracting exe or scm format)

You may enter which tests you wish to enter in two ways.
- If you gave all the tests, simply click the SELECT ALL TEST(S) button followed by the ENTER TEST(S) to open the Data Entry Screen.
- If you gave selected tests, highlight the test or part of a test that you want interpreted by clicking on them followed by the ENTER TEST(S) to open the Data Entry Screen. Note. Clicking on a test a second time will deselect it.
After choosing which tests to interpret, the PSYCH SUITE 4 Data Entry screen will appear.
A SELECT NEW BATTERY BUTTON exists on the right toolbar if you wish to return to the BATTERY SELECTION SCREEN and select an alternate battery.
ENTERING TEST SCORES
DATA ENTRY SCREEN
FOR VIRTUAL TOUR, CLICK HERE (self-extracting exe or scm format)

A DATA ENTRY SCREEN that lists only the tests or portions of tests that you have selected will replace the Test Selection Screen after you click on the ENTER TESTS button. If you failed to have selected tests or parts of tests that you have administered, click the "RESELECT TESTS" button which replaces the "VIEW TEST SCORES" button on the far right taskbar once the DATA ENTRY SCREEN is opened. This will return the middle screen to the Select Tests Screen. Before doing this, if you have already begun entering test scores, please save this information by clicking on the save button on the upper right before clicking on the RESELECT TEST button or your data will be lost. Then re-chose the tests to enter, press the ENTER TESTS button and press the EDIT button to add additional test scores.
To enter scores, press the "ADD" button on the extreme upper part of the Taskbar in the extreme right field. All scales will initially be given a score of 999, the missing values number. Please leave the score at 999 if a test or a part of a test has not been given.
Enter the correct scores for each variable listed as per this manual's instruction (see Appendix A and C for which scales to enter). Key in the correct test score and press Enter on your keyboard to automatically move to the next variable on the variable list.
It is essential that the V (Validity) score be entered for the MCMI and MACI. The V score ranges between 0 and 4, with it being 0 or 1 for valid tests. Unless the V score is entered, all other MCMI/MACI scores will be read as missing data and the report will be invalid.
Before the file is saved, you may want to scroll up and down the list of entered scores to verify that all entries are correct and make necessary corrections. You do not have to use the EDIT button to make changed until after the data has been saved. The EDIT button may then be used at any time after the data has been saved to correct mistakes.
Date of testing should also be entered at this time by CLICKING on “date of testing” box in the upper extreme right field with the mouse and typing in the date of test administration. If you do not do this, then the date of processing will be entered as the administration date. The date of report generation is automatically include in all PSYCH SCREEN reports, though you can edit this later if you desire.
After all Data is entered, CLICK on the "SAVE" button in the upperTaskbar section. Once saved, permanent changes in the data can be made by CLICKING on the "EDIT" button, making changes while in the edit mode and then pressing the "SAVE" button after all corrections have been made. Test results from a single displayed session may be deleted by using the "DELETE" key with all other test sessions for the current client retained.
GENERATING AND RETRIEVING INTERPRETATIONS - THE TASK BAR
GENERATING TEST REPORTS WITH THE TASKBAR
FOR VIRTUAL TOUR, CLICK HERE (self-extracting exe or scm format)

Once data has been entered and saved, the Task Bar in the extreme right hand field comes into play.
INTERPRET BUTTON: The top button, "INTERPRET," when pressed will generate a new report based on the person and test data that are displayed on the computer at that time. Every time the INTERPRET button is pressed, one use will be subtracted from your use count. Make sure that you have the correct person and test scores entered before pressing the "INTERPRET" button.
In many batteries, after the "INTERPRET" button is pressed, another screen will appear in the middle allowing you to select from three reports of different lengths including:
Comprehensive: prints both the Regular and Summary reports together so that you can quickly access basic test findings.
Regular: Regular report, without the summary,
Summary: Summary report that tells basic test finding so that you can quickly access results (1/2 the Regular report length).
After pressing which report that you would like, PSYCH SUITE 4 will generate a report which will be displayed either in WordPad (default) or the word processor, such as WORD, that you specify via the USES button. You may then edit a report to your clinical likings and then print or import the text into another document.
PLEASE BE PATIENT DUE TO THE COMPLEXITY AND THOROUGHNESS OF THE PSYCH SUITE 4 PROGRAM IT CAN TAKE ABOUT 45 SECONDS TO PROCESS ON A PENTIUM 166. A PROGRESS BAR IS DISPLAYED DURING PROCESSING FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE. THIS BAR MAY MOVE IN JUMPS AND MAY STAY STILL IN PLACES OF INTENSIVE CALCULATIONS.
YOU MAY EDIT REPORTS IN ANY WAY YOU PLEASE using any word processor and then print as many copies of the report as you want. Findings can easily be exported into other psychological reports
RESULTS BUTTON: Reports are saved in a database and may be accessed via the "RESULTS" button at a later date without using additional Test Interpretations. You may use the "RESULTS" button to call up old reports as often as you like without being charged for an additional Test Interpretation. To use the "RESULTS" button, simply set the Demographic Management field to the right client by use of the scroll bar or arrows and the Data Entry field to the correct Sequence Number for the Test Date of the report that you desire to print. Once this is done, pressing the "RESULTS" button will activate your word processer so that you can edit or print the report. Reports from clients or test sessions that have been deleted will not be available for access via the "RESULTS" button.
USES BUTTON: The "USE" button is a way of determining how many authorized uses remain, as well as showing you the Update Key number that is needed to order additional Interpretative reports. This key number changes every time that uses are added. Call PSYCH SCREEN, INC. at (800) 588-9412 to get an authorization code that will add a specific number of uses to your use count. This button is also used to select the default word processor of your choice.
MANUAL/HELP BUTTON: The "HELP/MANUAL" button allows you either to access this manual or use our help system.
VIEW TESTS SCORES/RESELECT TESTS BUTTON: This button toggles between two functions. The VIEW TEST SCORES button allows you to open the data entry screen for past test sessions, showing you the data for the displayed person and sequence number (test session). Once you begin to enter a new test session by pressing the ENTER TESTS button, the “RESELECT TESTS” button automatically appears so that you can reset the middle Data Entry screen to the Test Selection screen in order to add tests that you have administered, but accidentally failed to initially include. After selecting the right tests, again press the ENTER TESTS button.
ABOUT BUTTON: The "ABOUT" button tells you which version of PSYCH SCREEN that you are presently using.
EXIT BUTTON: The "EXIT" button will return you to the Welcome/Battery Select Screen where you may choose another PSYCHSUITE age version, start an unlimited use single test program or exit to Windows.
EDITING REPORTS
Once interpreted, reports are shown in the word processor that you selected on the USES Button. You may edit them as you like and save the report. Prior reports are always available for free through use of the RESULTS Button.
Alternately you may cut and paste sections of the reports into other documents such as a psychosocial history.
SESSION MANAGEMENT AND RETESTING
FOR VIRTUAL TOUR, CLICK HERE (self-extracting exe or scm format)

The upper part of the Taskbar is for managing the DATA ENTRY field. It has arrow keys to move between test and retest sessions that work like the Client selection part of the Client Information Management field.
After each time a series of test scores are entered, a Sequence number is automatically assigned to enter scores from retesting of the same client to the database at a later date. The initial time you enter a test administration the sequence number is one, with latter retests automatically being assigned the next available Sequence number depending on the number of times that you have previously tested the same client.
Add, Delete, Edit and Save keys that work similarly to those in the Demographic Information Management field are below the session movement keys. The ADD button is used to enter a new test session (retesting of same client at a latter date), with the EDIT button allowing you to edit test scores once they have been saved. After adding a new test session or editing an existing one, you must use the SAVE button to save data. The DELETE button will delete only the testing session that is shown, leaving data from all other testing sessions for the particular client intact.
WHAT TEST-SCORES TO ENTER
The specific Test results that are entered depend on which PSYCH SCREEN Version and which tests you use. Any combination of tests within a battery may be entered based on clinical judgment, see Appendix A and C for each test battery.
Due to copyright laws, tests must be either hand scored using templates available from each Test Publisher, or scored on software sold by the test-publishing firm.
For the Shipley Institute of Living Scale enter the Raw Vocabulary Score and the Abstraction score, a number between 0 and 40 (THE ABSTRACTION SCORE IS TWICE THE NUMBER OF CORRECT ANSWERS ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE SHIPLEY).
For the Matrix Reasoning subtest utilize the STANDARD SCORE (0-18) obtainable from the WAIS-III manual.
For the Millon family, including the MCMI III, MCMI II or MACI, enter the corrected Final Base Rate scores for all variables other than V, with this being the Raw V number. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT A V SCORE BE ENTERED OR ALL OTHER DATA WILL BE READ AS MISSING. Information from the MCMI II may be used if you enter Base Rate scores of 50 for the two scales (Depressive Personality Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) that are on the MCMI III, but not the MCMI II.
The MMPI, PAI, DAP/TSCC, Jesness, DSFI and STAXI-2 give T scores.
Raw scores are entered for the SASSI, MSI and LSI-R.
It is essential that you enter the right type of scores in the Test Data field: Be careful to enter the right scores, especially when first using PSYCH SUITE 4, or the results will be invalid.
To repeat:
- For Shipley, V Scale of the MACI or MCMI, SASSI, LSI-R and MSI Raw scores are entered.
- For the MILLON series, Final Base Rate scores are entered (other than for the V score).
- For the MMPI, PAI, STAXI-2, Jesness and DSFI, T scores are used
- Standard scores for Matrix Reasoning are entered.
Scores for any tests not given an individual should be left at 999, the Missing Values number, which is the default entry for each score.
See Appendix C for a review of computer variable names and scale score names for each PSYCH SCREEN version.
